Me cansé de decir que la era de Steve Jobs se acabó y estamos en la era de Tim Cook, una diferente, pero no menos interesante que la otra. Es una era de innovación lenta y de proceso, no de impacto directo como nos mal acostumbró Jobs. Pasó el WWDC 2020 y la muestra de que la era de Cook es una de lento pero seguro es más que claro. Observar el mercado, curarlo y romper con la capacidad de implementación que tiene Apple desde sus inicios. Hay que decir que cuesta mucho ver a la empresa de Cupertino en ese rol, pero acá salta algo que Cook y su equipo lo vio. Es una locura, es una visión mía, pero es una genialidad digna de Tim Cook, el mejor CEO que ha visto la manzana.
Después de la WWDC 2020 donde se lanzó iOS 14 queda claro en las funcionalidades que Apple echó una mirada a Android, miremos solo algunos detalles. Widgets, obvio que estaba en el sistema operativo de Google.
Las mejoras de Mapas es una de las cosas en las que Google siempre estuvo muy por delante. Apple tiene tan mala fama en materia de mapas que es mejor ni hablar y dejar la victoria a los del buscador, pero en esta keynote se hizo mucho énfasis en las funcionalidades de los mapas. Hay que volver a decir que mucho de lo presentado ya tenía Google Maps, pero no le quita lo genial y lo lindo de que Apple no deja ninguna funcionalidad sin avances por más que mucho de lo primero que se descarga en un iPhone es Waze o Google Maps. ¿Por qué? Sigamos que esto cierra al final.
No hablemos de la función Picture-Picture que es la posibilidad de ver un material audiovisual en paralelo mientras se hacen otras cosas en el iPhone. Esto es una de las más geniales posibilidades que se tiene en Android. No se puede negar que fue Android quien nos regaló primero esto, pero, ojo, no estamos en la era Jobs, eso es un factor muy importante para entender esto. Por ahora disfrutemos de los dos, en Android y iOS.
Podríamos estar viendo detalles de iOS 14 y comparar con Android 10, nos vamos a cansar de encontrar similitudes. Esto pasa mucho en la era Cook y muchos están molestos, no ven a la Apple de antes, no la ven como una empresa innovadora, etc. Pero es parte de la nueva forma de pensar. Hagamos un poco de historia, ¿Era el Apple Watch un dispositivo nuevo? No. ¿Era Apple Music algo nuevo? No. ¿Era el Apple Pencil algo nuevo? No. Vamos más allá ¿Era el iPod una nueva idea? No. ¿Era el iPad un nuevo producto? No. Puedo estar todo el mes citando dispositivos, pero el punto es que salimos de la distorsión de la realidad de Jobs y estamos en la etapa de evolución progresiva o de inspiración de Cook.
Les soy muy sincero, Google Maps, Google Chrome, Google Keep, Spotify, apps que casi por inercia las descargás, con las actualizaciones de iOS 14 de Notas, Safari, Apple Music y Apple Maps, por lo menos un poco de duda ya te entra, un poco y eso es trabajo de Cook. Los que tenemos experiencia con un Google Pixel conocemos las buenas funciones que tienen el sensor trasero, pero el Back Tap es una locura. Nada nuevo, pero ejecutado de maravilla. ¿Ya la viste? Acá paramos un poco con los halagos de lo sacado en el WWDC 2020. La era de evolución progresiva o de inspiración de Tim Cook es una de las más fascinantes lecturas de mercado que se pudo haber hecho. Pongamonos en la cabeza de Tim Cook por un momento y viajemos al 2011 donde asume su puesto de CEO. Tener un gran desafío como es sin cubrir a Jobs en conjunto con Ive era una tarea que se debería de pensar mucho, es donde la sale la bestia de Cook y empieza a ver a Apple como una empresa global y salir de su nicho, empieza a ver a la competencia por primera vez, pero con la gran ventaja de ejecución de Apple.
Desde ese momento todo fue hits para Apple. Watch, Music, iPhone X, AirPods, etc. una mejora notable de lo que ya había en el mercado, en el caso del Apple Watch, hasta mejora en la industria de los relojes, donde supera en ventas incluso a marcas legendaria como Rolex o Swatch. Hay que decir que es el reloj más genial que Estados Unidos creó y es competencia de los geniales suizos. ¿Se ve esa fuerza en la ejecución y visión? Apple sale del nicho tecnológico gracias a Cook.
Por eso con iOS 14 se rompe las barreras, si se quiere leer de un fan de Apple, les doy el placer, Apple copia de Android. ¿Felices? Pero con el detalle que ese nivel de ejecución es el mismo que en la era Jobs. Apple está en una era de inspiración en un mercado estancado, tanto que estamos viendo cosas como el Huawei Mate X o el Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, que son dispositivos con partes mecánicas, típico de Nokia y Motorola de los 2000. ¿Eso es el futuro? ¿Eso es un mercado innovador? ¡Estamos estancados!
Toda esta introducción de las similitudes de iOS con Android, dejar claro que la era Jobs no es igual a la de Cook, que el mercado está más estancado que antes, etc. es para mostrar que Apple está avanzando con su fuerza de implementación, lento como nos tiene acostumbrado Tim Cook, pero con una entrada muy fuerte en la usabilidad, aprovechando su unión de software con hardware, para hacer copias de mucha más calidad que el original. Es eso lo que está pasando. Tim Cook se encontró con un mercado quieto porque el único que lo movía de forma radical le dejó su imperio, imperio que ni con dos cabezas se le iguala, pero cuya implementación es incomparable. ¡Boom!
Esta filosofía de la que se puede hablar desde el 2011 está madurando y llegó a tal nivel de preguntarse si es necesario comprar un teléfono con Android si iOS tiene cada vez más las funcionalidades del OS de Google y encima con mejor calidad de usabilidad que le brinda la unión soft/hard, sin dejar de lado las leves pero geniales actualizaciones de apps, perfeccionando acciones como el back tap, pero por sobre todas las cosas, son descuidar la filosofía de seguridad y no tener como centro de su negocio los datos. Siempre decimos que amamos el arte y nuestra privacidad, nos respetamos como usuarios y que queremos que piensen en nosotros, etc ¿Estamos dispuestos a pagar unos dólares más por esos factores que reclamamos como usuarios?
La calidad Apple de diseño, con funcionalidades de apps y software en evolución, a la par de dispositivos que duran más que su competencia (iOS 14 disponible para iPhone 7) y la filosofía de privacidad y seguridad siempre más avanzada que otras marcas, hace que nos preguntemos ¿Cuál es la excusa de pagar por un teléfono con Android? ¿La diferencia vale nuestra privacidad? ¿No que amábamos como usuarios el arte? Cada vez las funcionalidades de Android están en iOS, pero la calidad de implementación y la seguridad no está llegando al OS de Google ¿No te parece que la excusa de comprar un Android en vez de un iOS se están acabando?
